Gabbro Falls

A short, easy forest path emerges at a deep gorge. Here the Black River, less than 12 feet wide, drops a full four stories between the dark, rocky banks. It's one of Gogebic County's more memorable but less visited waterfalls. Not for children who dart around. (The trail to nearby Powderhorn Falls is no longer strictly open to the public.)![]()
No signs, so be careful not to miss it. Not far from U.S.2. Go north on Blackjack Road 1.5 miles from U.S. 2, east of Bessemer. At the second gas line clearing, go west toward the river. Cross the Black River bridge and drive up the hill until you reach the Black Jack maintenance building on the right. The path begins just across the road. Handicap access: no.
