Brimley State Park
Boat-watchers love this tidy, 175-acre park. There's an extensive sandy beach and over a mile of Lake Superior shoreline. The picnic area has an outstanding view of freighters heading to and from the Soo Locks. The sheltered, shallow bay is one of the warmest places in Lake Superior for swimming. The township gave the original land to the state in 1923, making it one of Michigan's oldest state parks. It's near the Waishka River mouth, with good perch and walleye fishing. The park and modern campground feel suburban, not at all wild. But inland are over 2,000 adjacent acres of brush, swamp, and paper birch, used mostly for hunting.Entrance off Six Mile Rd. just east of Brimley. (906) 248-3422. michigan.gov/
