Bailey County Park

-
Almost a mile of nearly pure sand beach, on a point of land well away from the highway, makes this Menominee County park an extremely popular place for local families to swim. There's a very large picnic area but no camping.

Low dunes behind the beach give the area an extra natural dimension appreciated by birders and nature-lovers. This habitat — shoreline, then an area of milkweeds and other weedy plants, then a dark forest with many cedars — makes an ideal rest stop for migrating warblers (in May) and monarch butterflies (in August and September) when winds and weather are right. Shorebirds can be seen all summer long.

A short way north isWest Shore Fishing Museum, opened in 2007. It's in the house and farmstead of the Baileys, a successful commercial fishing family circa 1910. See separate point of interest.
