Mageia Mineerals
"Mageia" means "magic" in Greek. Proprietor Kathryn Wells has an extensive inventory from around the world, but the Copper Country treasures—Lake Superior agates, greenstones, copper, and datolite—are most in demand. For children there are lots of inexpensive minerals and fossil-related items, including dinosaur things. For classes in fossils and minerals, visit mageia.com. For rockhounds, one attraction of the area is the poor rock piles by mines. Though construction projects are eating the poor rock piles away, there are nevertheless more public mineral-collecting areas here than in almost all parts of urban and agricultural America.22210 5th St. at U.S. 41, next to The Einerlei. (906) 523-2721. Open from early May thru October, Tues-Sat about 10-5. Wheelchair-accessible from Fifth St. parking.
