East Bluff Walk to Robinson's Folly

Robinson's Folly, a bluff at the eastern-most point of Mackinac Island. In 1828 surveyors used this as a starting point.

Stairs at the ends of Bogan Lane and Church Street by Ste. Anne's lead up to the East Bluff with its row of historic "cottages," often quite large. Continue east for half a mile to Robinson's Folly, a limestone stack with a grassy area for sitting and a wonderful view out across Lake Huron, especially at sunrise. This is the island's eastern-most point.

When the sun is low in the sky near dawn or dusk, local people enjoy the East Bluff walk to town along the bluffs past the back side of the fort. This route lets walkers look down on the village from multiple views. Come down past the Governor's Summer Residence along the Fort Street hill. Or for a real hike, stay up and go around the Grand Nine golf course to the carriage barns behind Grand Hotel.
