Crystal View Golf Course

-
Golf's bygone simplicity still reigns at this super-scenic and challenging nine-hole course, owned by the city of Crystal Falls. It's laid out on the rather steep Paint River valley wall just east of town. Mature hardwoods along the valley floor frame a grand view of the little town from the fairway, culminating with the hillcrest courthouse and water tower. (See the view for yourself on www.crystalfalls.org/

The trees and topography make for some blind spots that require golfers to ring bells on three holes to prevent accidental beanings. Snacks are available at the little white clubhouse from the 1920s. Men's course rating/slope is 35.1/124, women's is 37.2/125. 2005 fees: $15 for 9 holes, $20 for 18 holes or all day, Mon-Fri. Mondays seniors get a discount. Wednesdays are reserved for men, Thursdays for women.
-
Go east from town on Superior/M-69, turn left (north) onto Wagner right after crossing the Paint River. Watch for golf course entrance up the hill. (906) 875-9919. Open from sometime in May into early Oct., weather permitting. For hours if no one answers, call the city clerk at (906) 875-3212.
