Bicycling along G-69 between U.S. 2 at Waucedah and M-69 at Foster City

This excellent but lightly traveled road through forests along the Sturgeon River Valley makes for great bicycling for medium-well-conditioned cyclists, says Dean Sandell, a state forest recreation planner. He likes this ride when camping at nearby Gene's Pond.

Gene's Pond. Great birding. Trees in this quiet state forest campground are home to a colony of blue heron, with their 6-foot wingspan, plus eagles, osprey. Loons dive for fish. At the moment, the trail is closed, so a boat is necessary to observe more birds. ... more
