North Beach
 |
The crescent beach at the outlet of North Light Creek is nestled between two high points with 200-foot sandstone cliffs. The bridge over the creek deemed unsafe for any kind of traffic. Bicyclists and hikers can choose to use it anyway, or cross the sandbar and creek below. Now that the north side has three fine campsites, many hikers can also enjoy this area,
The dramatic North Light, still in use, has one of the Great Lakes' highest light towers. It is not in any way open to the public. It is a private summer residence. It's on the northwestern point, clearly visible from the water but hard to see from the beach below.
Some very old and large hemlocks are in the island's northern part.
