Tunnel of Trees, US-41, south of Copper Harbor

Traveling on top of the Keweenaw's spine, the strip where most all the mineable copper was found, takes the traveller past one mining village after another, the mine sites themselves now mostly hidden by scrub.

The drive reaches its climax as it passes wonderful Keweenaw Mountain Lodge and the over-arching trees and little waterfalls.

Not an enjoyable trip if you're in a hurry. 35 mph is just about right to take in the wide range of sights, from massive vacant stone Kearsarge buildings left by the mines to the rock bluffs at Phoenix to the serene forest 41 twists through just before Copper Harbor.
