The Island Resort (formerly called Chip-In) opened in 1985 as one of the more modest Native American owned casinos sprinkled across the U.P. Since then it has improbably exploded into a huge complex.
The popularity of gaming, especially in the past decade or so, has enabled the tribe's current massive expansion (the third since '85) that will add a new hotel tower with an additional 210 rooms, another 15,000 square feet of gaming space with 450 new slots, a new 1300-seat showroom, a new restaurant and an 18-hole championship golf course. The Island Resort & Casino is located on the south side of Hwy 2 & 41. The Island Oasis convenience store and gas station is adjacent to the complex. It is open 24 hours daily.
