Our Lady of the Snows Church & Historical Indian Cemetery

A good place to see the widest variety of people under one roof is the Catholic church. Summer people, Native Americans, quarry workers, shopkeepers, prison guards—they're all represented. Sunday morning Mass is likely at 8:30 or 9. For schedule, call the parish office at St. Stanislaus in Goetzville: (906) 297-5108.
Just north of the church, a sign announces Hessel's "Historical Indian Cemetery" in a valley behind a fence. The red, white, and blue ribbons on the crosses of military veterans suggest the degree to which Native Americans serve in the United States military. Honoring veterans with ribbons was one retirement project for parish and tribal member John Andrews, a Korean veteran himself. Then he inspired others to keep up the work.

261 S. Island View Dr. on Hessel's east side. Island View Rd. is between M-134 and Hessel Point Rd. along the water.
