Ontonagon Township Park

Ontonagon Township Park
Shady and peaceful, the park overlooks a long, sandy Lake Superior beach.

Tucked away on the beautiful Lake Superior shore northeast of downtown, this simple, pleasant park and campground enjoy a wonderful setting at the end of Ontonagon's nicest old street. The public beach, nearly a mile long, is sandy, with enough stones for interesting rock-picking. The park faces northwest, providing a wonderful sunset walk either along the beach or along the long sidewalk with benches by the street (wheelchair-accessible). There's a picnic area with tables and fire pits, and a good view southwest down to the Porkies. The park includes a playground. Now the park has flush toilets. Tip: for good driftwood, go to the beach's southwest end.

Take Houghton St./Lake Shore northeast from River St. downtown. Park is in 1 mile.
