Stubb's Bar & Museum

Stubbs bar
Linda Marks, seen here behind the bar, scoffed when jokingly told this photo would make her famous. "We're already famous," she pointed out. Stubbs is an outstanding example of the "museum bar," with continuing additions to the collection. Packers fans will find many one-of-a-kind items. Small dioramas are also interesting.

Taverns are a natural repository of memorabilia, but V. A. Nelson (called "Stubb" because he had one arm) conceived of his bar as an actual museum. He began his collection with the usual mounted heads and a mounted turtle with an unsettling stare. Linda and Elmer Marks, who bought the place in 1973, continued the collection to the point that nearly every surface is covered and so much hangs from the ceiling (fish lures, guns, wagon wheels, lamps, and much more) that the ceiling itself is just about invisible. Ancient snapshots go back to logging days. Postcards from many times and places comprise the Wall of Fame. A chain saw has created likenesses of Packer heroes Brett Favre and Reggie White, each out of a single log. Recently commissioned scenes in clay show a hunter's cabin, Stubb's saloon, and Wild West and outhouse scenes. No food, just beer, wine, and booze.
