Along the North Country Trail

-
The 2,000-mile-long North Country Trail traverses the Porcupine State Park. It allows connections without interruption, enabling hikers and backpackers to go west to the Black River waterfalls (not far from the Presque Isle River mouth) and east all the way to the Sturgeon River Gorge and Wilderness Area in Baraga County.

Other routes through the state park are more scenic, but the North Country Trail is the most remote. The high North Country Trail section through the TRAP HILLS east of the park is also remote and especially spectacular--a fall color standout. The entire route is quite varied. Excellent notes and photos are on the Western U.P. Peter Wolfe Chapter web site, www.northcountrytrail.org/pwf.
