| | Only the post office is still open in downtown Ramsay. The barber shop, candy shop, and clothing store are long gone, and the theater across the street has been torn down. | Originally a lumbering village, Ramsay was later redeveloped as a company town by the Eureka-Asteroid Mining Company. In the words of Kathryn Eckert's Buildings of Michigan , the company built "white-painted, individualized houses" that were unique for their time in the area. Today the town is predominantly a retirement community. One of the last remaining institutions, the Catholic church, closed in 1996. There remains a tavern, a post office, and the township hall. A quaint old corner restaurant on the main street has been reopened and spiffed up to good effect as ORE HOUSE PUB & PIZZA (663-6331); it's a busy spot in snowmobile season. Otherwise call to confirm hours.
