Rapid River Cross-Country Ski Trail

-
Nineteen miles of loops through pine and maple forests offer something for everyone: easy loops of 1.2 and 2.7 miles (with a 20-foot variation from high to low), advanced loops of 6.4 and 10 miles that take good advantage of glacial hills, a 6.8 mile intermediate loop, and ski skating loops of 4.7 miles (intermediate) and 7.4 miles (advanced).

The forested hills don't offer views, but the variety and challenge is enough to keep many area skiers coming back up to four times a week. The Hiawatha National Forest grooms this popular ski area. For trail conditions, call (906) 474-6442, ext. 105.

From U.S. 2 in Rapid River, take U.S. 41 7 miles north. Look for signed parking area on left. Trail maps available at trailhead; maps on signboards are frequent. No fees as of press time. (906) 474-6442.
