Pascoe House

The local museum of the Republic Area Historical Society is in a house going back to the 1880s that has never been altered, we're told - only moved from North Repubic. Its kitchen, pantry, dining room, and one bedroom are furnished to approximate a middle-class home from about 1900. (No miners at that time would have lived so well.)

Changing exhibits are mounted in the parlor. For 2005 the theme is "School Memories" in honor of 2005's all-class reunion. An illustrated timeline is upstairs, with photos and artifacts like Native American points and arrowheads and a miner's lunchbox and lamp.

In addition to Republic, the historical society represents the nearby mining communities of Witch Lake and Black River. No one seems to know how Witch Lake got its name.
