Raspberry Island
|
| Alice Pawley |
Opposite Rock Harbor, this rugged outer island is a must-see for visitors. A one-mile, self-guided nature trail includes a boardwalk across a spruce bog past insect-eating plants. Tuesday and Friday evenings at 8 (at 7:30 August through Labor Day) the M.V. Sandy makes a sunset tour from Rock Harbor with time for a walk on the island led by a Sandy deck hand. Then the boat heads back past Scoville and Blake points and the Monarch shipwreck. For a shuttle to drop you off earlier for a day on Raspberry Island, make a reservation at the desk at Rock Harbor Lodge. Going to Raspberry Island is also an easy paddle on a calm day. Cost: $38/adults, $19 for children under 12. This tour is first-come, first-served and weather-dependent.
