St. Mary's Pro-cathedral

The honorific name of "pro-cathedral" refers to the parish's early role as the home of Upper Peninsula's first cathedral, founded by Bishop Frederick Baraga. He later moved the diocese to Marquette and built the first St. Peter Cathedral.
Weekend Masses are Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 9:30 and 11:30 (11 in summer). Weekday Masses are at 8 a.m. Monday thru Friday except at 8:30 Tuesday. Visitors are welcome to come in weekdays. Use the side door; look for a pamphlet about the church. Come between 10 and 4 to be sure of not interrupting Mass. In the Mary Room, a separate space entered from the same entry hall, is seen an acquisition from Bishop Baraga's tenure here: a stained glass window of the Blessed Virgin Mary imported from Belgium in the mid-19th century.
