The sandstone (instead of the usual Upper Peninsula of Michigan basalt rock) reminds one of Kentucky, however, this is much more dramatic. A woodland lake, lichens, beautiful cliffs and a sand beach culminate with a beautiful waterfall on what is clled both Spray River and Spray Creek.<br><br>One can only photograph the waterfall from two dangerously undercut outcrops of rock. The best photographic point is one-eighth mile east of the waterfall (this is the furthest point east that is seen from the crest of the waterfall).<br><br>This is a long hike on a well marked trail. There are some ups and downs, but it is not difficult walking, and there are steps at the steep sections.<br><br>Drive within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on County Road H-58 and turn north on the Beaver Lake Campground Road (a.k.a.County Road 699 or Little Beaver Lake Road).<br><br>After about three miles (before reaching the campground) turn left and park at the trail parking lot. There is a trail sign. Take the trail 1.5 miles north to the lakeshore trail.
