It has a convenience store, an unexpected coffeehouse and coffee roaster, and the newish <B>Parkview Lodge and Grill</B> (906-288-3288) with 16 smoke-free rooms - all on U.S. 26. <br><br>Twin Lakes homes are mostly cottages clustered around Lake Roland and Lake Gerald, the twin lake.<B><a href="http://hunts-upguide.com/twin_lakes_twin_lakes_state_park.html" target="_top">Twin Lakes State Park</a></B> is between Lake Roland and M-26. It gets a lot of road noise, but it's often quite full because Lake Roland warms up quickly for swimming and this is a convenient place for family get-togethers, with two picnic shelters. the picnic. The secluded <b>Emily Lake State Forest campground</b> is on smaller Emily Lake south of town. <br><br>Twin Lakes' mailing address is Toivola, 10 miles to the north on M-26, a former logging camp and stop on the Copper Range Railroad. In Finnish <B>Toivola</B> means <B>city of hope.</B> North of Toivola the Misery Bay Road leads to <a href="http://hunts-upguide.com/bubletown_hill_agate_beach.html" target="_top">Agate Beach</a> on <B>Misery Bay</B>, one of the Keweenaw's magical, tucked-away spots with <a href="http://hunts-upguide.com/bubletown_hill_agate_beach.html" target="_top">agate beach</a>es and a <B>25-site primitive campground</B>. A <B>bonfire</B> is held there in honor of <B>Juhannes</B>, St. John's Day, a feast day near the summer solstice.<br><br>Using Twin Lakes as a base camp could give visitors a peaceful, private lakeside housekeeping cottage or camp site within an easy drive of many different destinations: the Adventure Mine and Old Victoria, the Porkies, the Seaman Mineralogical Museum in Houghton, even Copper Harbor for a long day's drive. The resort has a <B>sandy beach</B> with two fire pits and a modest dock. Four of the <B>7 housekeeping cottages</B> have lake views. Two have three bedrooms; the rest have two. Aluminum boats are available.</B>. All linens except towels are provided. Some rooms have TV (2 channels) and no phones. You can use the office phone. Poor cell phone receptionl. The cottages date from many eras; some have knotty-pine walls, and one has a rustic log interior. The owner can direct guests to local beauty spots. Reservations of 3 days and more are preferred. $400-$800/week.
